By measuring the angle between the horizon and celestial bodies like the sun, moon, or stars, sailors can determine their latitude and longitude. • Fully functional (All parts are moving ) and can be used for basic observation and educational purposes. • Made of Brass with Antique finish that gives the instrument a great rustic look and fitted with glass optics for a clear view. • The angular distance of the star above the horizon is then read from the graduated arc of the sextant. From this angle and the exact time of day as registered by a chronometer, the latitude can be determined (within a few hundred meters) by means of published tables.
